THE STORY BEHIND SOBER SELF-TEST
FROM PERSONAL LOSS TO A MISSION.
More than thirty years ago, Sober Self-Test founder Tim Downey lost a valued employee, jeannie, in a drunk-driving collision as she was traveling home to spend Christmas with her family.
That tragedy left Tim with a question that stayed with him for years: What if the driver had known he was impaired before getting behind the wheel?
That question eventually became a mission - to create a simple, reliable way for people to test themselves after drinking and make a more informed decision before driving.
After years of development and collaboration with scientists and other professionals, that idea became Sober Self-Test®. In September 2025, Sober Self-Test received FDA clearance.
